Case Studies in Domestic Violence

This is part two of my series of blogs that I promised. I saw so many cases this past week in court that I can break them up into several different blogs. This is the second one.

Domestic violence is an issue that seems to cross over racial, sex, socioeconomic, and any other division line you can think of for humanity. Here are two classic examples of domestic violence.

First case involved a male criminal defendant who was in for a bond hearing for a felony domestic violence charge. Defendant had been charged four times before for assaulting the same female. The facts of the case were fairly simple-Woman asked the man to leave. He refused and struck her in the face and dislocated her arm. He was arrested at the police station when he turned himself and was then transported to the jail.

The woman, however, decides in court to take the stand during the bond hearing in DEFENSE of her boyfriend. She states it was "simply a misunderstanding" and that he grabbed her to keep her from "hitting him." She stated she still wanted to be with him and "he helped out money wise" with her and her kids.

The judge gave him a $5,000 bond with no contact whatsoever with the victim. He is also on pre-trial supervision.

This is classic domestic violence. This defendant had brutalized this woman several times before but due to whatever self esteem issues and the economy her dumb ass decides to stay with him (HE HAD BEEN CONVICTED FOUR TIMES BEFORE FOR ASSAULTING HER). Chances are if she continues she'll either be permanently injured or killed.

Next case involved a female criminal defendant. This defendant was living with her boyfriend who was in the Navy. First incident she stabbed her boyfriend with a knife. She was apparently not happy he managed to get back into the house. She pulled out a knife, stabbed him in the leg, and then supposedly tried to injure herself. Police were called and the female was charged with malicious assault.

Next incident occurred AFTER the first incident. Dumb ass takes the female defendant back. She this time hits him in the hand with a cutting board (heavy wooden one) because she's upset he won't give her alcohol. She was arrested and charges again with domestic violence.

The sad thing was before the hearing this couple was HOLDING HANDS in the waiting area. She is bipolar, violent, has an alcohol abuse problem, no job, no driver's license, and no prospectives for her future. Please tell me why, other than the fact she's semi-attractive and her boyfriend is a dumb ass, are they still together?

She plead guilty and was sent to community corrections for supervision, etc. I'm sure they'll be back next time psycho chick goes off her meds.

WOW...why do people stay in relationships like this?

I once heard someone say, "If it isn't crazy, it isn't love."

I was in a relationship like that once. The reason I stayed too long was that I wasn't thinking straight. One of my friends corrected me by asking a pertinent question: You're not going with that screwball again, are you?

She stalked me for a while and finally fixated on someone else. I hear she died in a fire.
